Biography
For Jeroen Cremers (1972) the pen is his tool and the paper his canvas. After graduating at both the Maastricht art academy and the Eindhoven design academy he worked in different media such as photography, installation and ceramics but he always returned to his passion for drawing.
Jeroen's work mirrors the world around him and visualizes and comments on the darker sides of society. His topics are big: lust, hate, fear, but also hope. He balances his fascination for dark subjects with a strong love for esthetics. He transforms his subjects into unique personal fairytales. Starting with a thought or an image in his head he lets the work evolve by adding different elements that come up during the process. This makes every work into a personal collage. Strong contrasts in black and white, fragile lines, texts and colourful backgrounds are dominant in his work, showing the influences of artists such as Goya, Tim Sale, Frank Miller, Thomas Schutte and Jake & Dino Chapman. But Jeroen is also highly inspired by street graphics, song lyrics and surreal, theatrical movies such as "the Fall", "Pan's Labyrinth" or the David Lynch movies.
Jeroen has worked for clients such as Najib Amhali, Mooi weer de Leeuw, Koefnoen and singer songwriter Nadie Reyhani. His work has been sold at Christies and published in the international magazine D for Drawing and in Rooms Art Uncovered. In 2008 he curated the independant drawing gig Amsterdam and exhibited in Skopje. In 2010 his work has been exhibited all over Europe, including a self-cutared exhibition of international animation artists in Berlin.
